Control vs Surrender

I am a control freak. If I’m in control, I tend to believe I can stop bad things from happening to those I love. Maybe I can even prevent heartache and hardships in our lives. But I have been wrong in every circumstance. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Every. Single. One. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I did everything right, yet our son still died from cancer. I constantly hovered, yet my boys have still broken bones. I tried feeding my family healthy meals, yet my husband still has type 2 diabetes. The list goes on and on. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’m delusional to think I can control our lives enough to prevent anything negative from coming our way.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The hard reality I’ve come to face through all of these things is that sometimes I don’t trust God. I don’t always trust Him with those I love the most and I don’t trust Him with my heart. I think I know better than Him and I cringe admitting that.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Proverbs 3:5 tells us to, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding” (ESV). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Sis, our minds are finite. Only God sees the big picture. Our understanding and our ways cannot compare to the plans of our Sovereign God.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The truth is, we are not exempt from troubles in this world. Our loved ones may still suffer. We may face tragedy we’d never imagined. The perseverance, faith and strength we gain while enduring these trials, however, will bless us and can bless others. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.” -James 1:12 (ESV)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Are you clutching something in your life that needs to be surrendered to Jesus? Are you afraid to let go, like I have been? Jesus doesn’t promise us an easy life, but He does promise to be with us every step of the way. He will calm us amidst the storms. If you’re struggling to release your grip, tell Him. Ask Him for help and rest at His feet as He guides you to surrender, freedom and peace.

Dearest friends–I will be sharing the posts I write on Tuesdays for the Daughter of Delight Instagram page on this new and improved website. I will also be making a better, scheduled attempt to blog more regularly (have I said that before?!). We have added a new “subscribe” feature on this new website. If you feel led, please subscribe again….even if you have done so previously. I’m not sure if the emails have been carried over. I’m attempting to build a social media platform for future writing, which is a huge key to a writer’s success in this day and age. So, only if you feel led to subscribe and follow, I’d love for you to share your email address with me again. But overall, I’m just thankful you checked out the page and I pray that the words God has put in my mind to share has blessed you in some way. To God be all of the glory!   ~Rochelle⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
