A New Creation

Happy New Year!

I think we’re all breathing a sigh of relief that 2020 is finally behind us. It was a year of constant uncertainty and unprecedented restrictions. Who knew when we began our year that we would be facing a global pandemic…we would be discouraged from seeing our family members…or that friends would pass away alone?

I don’t think any parents predicted distance learning for our children. Business owners didn’t know they would soon have to close their doors for lack of funds. Doctors didn’t know they’d turn to Telehealth visits to see the majority of their patients. It was all unheard of for our generations.

Yet, many of us survived. We might not have made it through unscathed, whether it be mentally, emotionally or physically, but we’re here. Ready to face another year.

Normally, people are ready to set New Year’s resolutions. We’re ready to begin a new routine, a new hobby, or a healthier lifestyle. We’re ready to leave 2020 behind us and start fresh.

I want to remind you of what Paul says in 2 Corinthians 5:17. He tells us, “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come.” The great truth of this passage is we don’t have to wait for a calendar year to pass before becoming a new creation or starting a new lifestyle or developing new habits. This can happen anytime…on any day…to anyone.

We’re used to society recommending new ways of living in a new year, and sometimes I find myself wanting a “restart” on January 1st. Today I was reminded that I can “restart” anytime with Jesus. It doesn’t have to be on a specific date. He is there, ready and waiting to show us a new life in Him…with Jesus as our focus.

I encourage you to look at your dreams, as I look at mine. Is Jesus in the center of them? Has He been a part of creating your dreams? We know, as Christians, that with Him all things are possible. So let’s not exclude Him now.

Invite Him in. Ask Him for help and ask Him what He wants for your life. Dig into His Word. He is there….He will speak to us. We just need to be still and listen.

Perhaps it won’t simply be adopting a new habit or healthier diet. Maybe He will ask you to forgive someone or help your neighbor. Maybe it will mean stepping out of your comfort zone in a way you’ve never dared before. His plans could be so far off our radar that we’re shocked at what is revealed. Rest knowing His plans are always greater and will always be more meaningful than what we could conjure up. Let’s listen for His direction.

I wish you all the best in this upcoming year. We’ve been through so much together and I pray for healing and restoration to come for all in 2021. I pray we can walk beside each other in the plans God has created for us and come out victorious because we have Him in our lives.

May God bless you and your efforts as you seek Him!
